ACS appoints Bruce Lakin as chief executive

Australian Computer Society (ACS) chairman Kumar Parakala has appointed Bruce Lakin as CEO of the society, effective today.

The appointment came six weeks after it emerged that previous chief Kim Denham was suing ACS for alleged misleading or deceptive conduct.

Denham had been in the role for one year.

New chief Bruce Lakin has held roles including senior director for Symantec Asia Pacific and Japan, managing director of VERITAS Software and general manager of Toshiba.

"Bruce is a leading ICT professional whose substantial industry experience and knowledge will make him an outstanding ambassador for the Society and the profession," said ACS chairman, Kumar Parakala.

Lakin said he was honoured to take up the position.

"I look forward to helping progress the Society's role as an advocate for the profession, in advancing the careers of ICT professionals and its hosting of World Computer Congress in 2010," said Lakin.

In his role he will focus on the National Broadband Network, Australia's Digital Economy, ICT skills development and careers, Green ICT and e-Security.
