Smart systems and open software platforms.

Juniper Networks has released new software and hardware for enterprises under its New Network initiative.

The New Network is based on the firm's Junos open software platform that can be used to program across the different layers of the network.

Juniper also unveiled new Junos processors, including faster routers, and new cloud networking and security solutions, along with a number of partnerships, including a licensing deal with Blade Network Technologies to develop blade systems based on Junos. Other deals were signed with Dell and IBM.

The Junos software is a cross-network platform that includes the Junos network operating system, Junos Space network application platform and Junos Pulse integrated network client. Juniper said that this combination will allow companies to deliver rich media experiences across different platforms.

The Junos One family of processors includes a new Junos Trio chipset, which will be delivered in new modular line cards, and 3.5in routers for the Juniper MX Series. The firm estimates that these will offer "two to four times faster throughput than the competition", claiming speeds of up to 2.6Tbit/s while using half as much power per gigabit.

"Networks are now clearly the hub of business and community around the world, and that is driving massive scale requirements for the next decade," said Juniper chief executive Kevin Johnson.

"Driven by our mission to connect everything and empower everyone, Juniper believes it is time for a new approach to networking based on smart systems and open software platforms, an approach that adapts to changing business dynamics, embraces partnerships and unleashes innovation."
