Cellnet acquires Jatek

Telecommunications distributor Cellnet Group has acquired Adelaide-based mobile phone accessories distributor Jatek in a $1.35 million deal.

Privately-owned Jatek imports accessories that display licensed images, logos and designs, Cellnet said. These include popular brands such as Holden Racing, Jim Beam, Coca Cola and Sesame Street, the company said.

“The acquisition of Jatek will result in a number of benefits for Cellnet including leverage of Jatek licences to other Cellnet products, bundling of products and access to Jatek retail accounts,” said Stephen Harrison, managing director at Cellnet Group.

“Jatek currently sells directly to a number of retail accounts where we do not have a strong presence and we will be looking to bundle other accessory products into these retailers,” he added.

Cellnet would also look to use licence agreements for other mobile accessories including neck straps, protective cases and holders.

“We will be bundling the licensed accessories with mobile phone handsets to offer a comprehensive product offering to retailers and the trade channel. By importing the Jatek products directly, we will also be able to increase profit margins on these products,” Harrison said.

He added: “We will be seeking to capitalise on cross-selling opportunities between Jatek and Mercury mobility division by expanding Jatek's licence agreements to include Mercury Mobility entertainment content.”
