Telstra buys more UK data centre space

Telstra International has expanded its global data centre network with a 10,000 square foot facility in the United Kingdom.

The "multi-million [British] pound" centre offered hosting space and connectivity into Telstra's Next IP network.

The centre, located in Woking, was designed "to support evolving infrastructure requirements, such as virtualisation and Software as a Service (SaaS)," the carrier said in a statement.

It would provide "a wide range of managed hosting services, from managed storage to smart remote hands".

"Disaster recovery is delivered through resilient fibre optic cable feeds between Telstra International's other UK data centres in Cambridge and London," Telstra said.

It was due to open in the fourth quarter of this year.
