Four heads move to new roles

Software provider and consultancy Aston Business Solutions has appointed Peter Maggs as its new managing director.

Maggs replaces Ian Whiting, who was managing director for three years.

Mogens Elsberg, global CEO at Aston Business Solutions, said Whiting had tripled staff numbers and grown the business to three locations. Australia was now Aston's fifth largest office, he said.

Maggs -- who formerly owned a Microsoft Business Solutions-focused IT consultancy -- joined Aston about six months ago. Aston is a Gold Certified Microsoft Partner.

Cellnet Group has assigned Michael Hughey to the new post of group GM.

Hughey, who is currently Cellnet GM in New Zealand, will be based in Sydney.

Stephen Harrison, MD at Cellnet, said the new role was an important step in Cellnet's evolution.

The company aimed at becoming a 'complete' distributor targeting the converging telecommunications and IT sectors, Harrison said.

Hughey's background is in human resources and sales. As GM of Cellnet New Zealand, he increased the number of staff from three in 1996 to 100 today.

Vendors have also been doing the shuffle.

Security software vendor Symantec has appointed a new Asia-Pacific vice-president.

Michelle Amery, based in Hong Kong, will manage sales, marketing and regional operations.

She replaces Vincent Steckler, who becomes vice-president of Japan and Asia-Pacific.

Amery was previously a US-based vice-president for global sales planning and operations.

Canadian enterprise content management software vendor Hummingbird has opened an office in Canberra.

Paul Leahy has been assigned the role of regional manager for the ACT. He was formerly ACT branch manager for Tower Software.
