The microblogging giant purchased the corporate domain management solution for an undisclosed sum.

A spokeswoman for Melbourne IT declined to disclose the value of the agreement.

But it covers all aspects of Twitter's domain portfolio.

Melbourne IT said it would manage "the timely renewal of existing domain names and registration of any new domain names for [Twitter], including both top level and country code domains".

"Security of Twitter's online brands is of utmost importance," the spokeswoman said.

Twitter also received access to an online portal that surfaced order tracking and custom reports of domain name status as part of the deal.

The spokeswoman said the deal was secured by the North American office of Melbourne IT's digital brand services (DBS) division.

"Melbourne IT DBS looks after more than 3000 corporate clients," the spokeswoman said.

"We are very pleased to have been chosen to manage Twitter's domain name portfolio as a prestige emerging new media brand."

According to a recent report from The Nielson Company, unique visitors to Twitter.com increased more than 10 fold year-on-year from 475,000 in February 2008 to seven million in February 2009.
