But does it stack up against other bank offers?

Suncorp Bank has joined Westpac and NAB to offer online customers security software but the deal isn't nearly as sweet as what it appears.

Suncorp discounts AVG security software

It offers a free 90-day trial of AVG internet security to customers and a 15 percent discount on a year or two-year licence for $76.49 and $115.59, respectively.

AVG said the saving of the trial and discount was around 40 percent off the price of the software.

But the security vendor already has a free, 30-day trial and offers from Big-Four banks are more competitive.

As reported by iTnews late last year, Westpac gives its online banking customers a year's access to PC Tools' Internet Security suite.

NAB offers its customers a year's subscription to ZoneAlarm's Internet Security Suite for $34.98.

Customers can buy a two-year licence for $46.75.

NAB also offers PC Tools' anti-spyware software for $33.95 a year.

AVG's A/NZ marketing manager Lloyd Borrett praised Suncorp's thinking.

"Most people rank online banking as one of the top online activities that makes their lives easier," he said.

"While all banks are actively encouraging their customers to conduct their transactions online, we appreciate the responsible position Suncorp has taken to ensure its customers have greater peace of mind with all their online transactions".
