NSW-based RailCorp will commence a pilot project to test a new system for managing employee identity verification and access to its HR, safety and network access repository applications.

RailCorp plans user identity management project
The proposed system, to be based on the Sun Identity and Access Management (IAM) Java suite, will be built by Unisys Asia Pacific.

It will be used to manage employee access to its human resources application, Ellipse; its network access repository, Active Directory; and its safety management application, First Priority Enterprise.

The project will require the creation of rule- and role-based policies about who can access critical information resources, according to Vicki Coleman, group general manager of ICT at RailCorp.

“It’s essential to have a robust system for managing access to our critical business applications, particularly given our large long-term employee and contractor-base,” Coleman said.

“The Identity and Access Management solution will allow RailCorp to introduce greater rigour into the lifecycle management of who is authorised to access these applications.”

Detailed profiles about each user – typically employees, contractors and suppliers - include their personal credentials and professional roles and are maintained in a central repository that allows businesses to easily manage and audit access rights to sensitive network data.

The pilot project solution is expected to be finalised in December.

Earlier this year, Unisys was appointed by RailCorp to implement an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution based on EMC’s Documentum.
