Google launches Yahoo 'facts' site

The Yahoo-Google Facts site provides the company's argument for the deal, and hits back at anti-competition claims made by others within the advertising and regulatory industries.

Containing Google's own arguments for the deal as well as supporting quotes from various sources, the site aims to counter the parade of companies that have come out against the deal in recent days.

The new site is the latest in a public relations push by Google to drum up support. Earlier this week, the company launched a blog offensive by its executives.

The site also lashes out at Microsoft. Google has accused the firm of launching "political attacks" on the deal in retaliation for its own failed attempt at a Yahoo deal.

"This agreement, unlike Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Yahoo, means that Yahoo will remain an independent company in the business of search and advertising," reads the site.

"Yahoo has stated that it will reinvest the additional revenue from this agreement into improving its user services and competing vigorously against Google, Microsoft and other companies."

US advertising and international publishing groups have voiced concern over the deal, and the US Department of Justice is also said to be taking a hard look at the proposals.

Google noted on the site that it will be voluntarily delaying proceedings on the deal to allow regulators to taker a closer look.
