AT&T targets WA billions

Telecommunications vendor AT&T Australia has appointed channel partner Global Itelegence to target the $12 billion mining and resources industry in Western Australia.

The newly-formed company will push AT&T managed networking and telecommunications services to WA mining, minerals, oil and gas firms in the latest stage of AT&T's new multi-channel sales strategy.

Peter Bannister, MD of Global Itelegence, said many companies only provided local services with “very limited” global connections, services and support. However, many WA resources companies and project teams operated globally, using Perth as an operational centre and forming teams with thousands of staff, he said.

“Companies in the resources sector have many geographically dispersed teams. They need the infrastructure, services and support to communicate and share data online through reliable and secure communications methods,” Bannister said.

Steve Lowe, MD of AT&T Australia and NZ, said the deal targeted the $12 billion WA resources sector with improved multi-site global connectivity. Global Itelegence will provide voice, data, conferencing and managed networking services and integrated managed networking services including leased equipment and infrastructure, he said.

“Customers will enjoy seamless access to the AT&T Global Network and continuous support and have a single point of contact in Perth to meet global design, installation, billing and 24x7 service support needs,” Lowe said.

In April AT&T Australia announced it would build a multi-partner channel to cater for a broader mix of business customers. The company hopes to sign several channel partners in different verticals by end 2003.
