Digiland hires 16 amid restructure

Interim Digiland MD Khoo Teng Liat said five business development managers had joined in Sydney, two in Brisbane, one in Perth, and one in Melbourne.

Digiland has added 16 staff to its Australian operations as part of an ongoing restructure of the distributor.

Digiland Australia has also added two customer service representatives, one Acer product manager and four back-office staff. A new Fujitsu product manager is yet to be recruited.

“However, we have not made a final decision on where the head office in Australia will be so it is still in Melbourne,” Khoo said.

Khoo said Digiland hoped to announce the appointment of its new MD by the end of April. “We have two very strong candidates. They have a background in this industry,” he said.

He would not be drawn on further details of the Australian restructure, saying only that the company would continue to operate white-box, commercial and consumer business units and no other changes in staffing had been decided. Digiland lost $4.375 million in the half-year to 31 December.

Khoo had said Digiland will not only consider re-locating its Australian headquarters from Melbourne, but will “look closely” at improving efficiencies across the distributor's three business units. The restructure is to be completed by October this year.

Khoo Teng Liat was appointed interim MD after Chin Nam Low resigned in March to pursue options in other industries.

Former Digiland general manager of commodities, George Skaf, has recently taken the reins of a GM role at the Australian operation of global component distributor eSys Distribution.

The distributor came under scrutiny last year when Epson revoked its Genuine Gold Seal distributor status when a subsidiary was found sourcing printer cartridges in Malaysia, contrary to the stipulations of its Gold Seal designation.
