NSW government gives HSC students online help

The NSW Office of the Board of Studies this week launched an interactive study resource website for the 67,000 Higher School Certificate students in the state.

The site includes access to syllabi, practice tests, past papers, and study tips.

Each student will receive their own pin number that allows them to customise the site to their specific course load and make ‘To Do’ lists to keep track of their study commitments and exam schedules.

Lyndon Sharp from the Office of the Board of Studies believes that with the age of the current HSC students, now is the perfect time to integrate such a site into the schools.

“It’s really the right time because these students were born in and after 1990, the year the first website went up. This HSC generation is the first who have never known a world without the internet,” he said.

“We want to give students the ability to use it as a study centre, it uses AJAX and Web 2.0 to provide them with all the tools they need in one place.”

“We really hope they'll begin to use it as their browser start page.”

Sharp said the Board of Studies believes the HSC students are the best group to work with first because they need extra help in preparing for their final exams and readying to transition from school to work.

The Board has plans to extend the site to younger student groups, starting with year 10, after the early pilot stages.
