Australia Computer Society’s (ACS) national president, Kumar Parakala, has welcomed Kim Denham as the new chief executive officer for the Society.

ACS elects Kim Denham as new CEO
Parakala said her experience across a range of executive roles and ICT disciplines will be of enormous benefit to the Society. Her extensive career includes work within government, the private sector, the public sector and the community.

“Kim’s diverse experience and her strong understanding of the member base made her a stand-out candidate for the position,” Kumar said. “Her experience and interests very much align with the areas of major focus for the ACS in 2008."

Denham has more than 20 years experience in ICT, including management roles with Ericsson Australia, West Australian Newspapers, Tourism Western Australia and CSBP Limited. She was a finalist in the 2006 Telstra Business Women’s Awards in WA and has worked on various boards, panels and steering committees, including the ACS WA Branch, ACS-W Board, ICT Industry Collaboration Centre in WA, Curtin University of Technology IS Advisory Board, Information Industry Forum in WA, WA Information Technology & Telecommunications Awards and Australian Telecommunications Users Group in WA.

Commencing her role towards the end of February, Denham will relocate from Western Australian to the ACS National office in Sydney.

“My focus is on the growth of the Society, and also on overall industry growth," she said. "Australia has a promising ICT industry and we have very talented professionals. We can be extremely competitive on the world’s stage, but greater recognition and collaboration from the business community and the Government is what’s required to allow our sector to flourish.”
