HP is announcing a new campaign to boost the company's presence in China.

The company is planning to launch a new manufacturing plant in the city of Chongqing in western China. The 20,000 square-meter factory will focus primarily on building notebook and desktop systems for sale within China.

HP is also planning to build a separate support center in Chongqing.

HP hopes that the new plant will bolster the company's presence in China and allow the company to broaden its reach with the country's expanding consumer and business bases.

The company is currently the #2 PC vendor in the country behind locally-grown firm Lenovo.

"We look forward to expanding opportunities for local talent in the heart of China to help us better serve the Chinese market for computing products and services," said Todd Bradley, executive vice president of HP's personal systems group.

HP hopes to have the new manufacturing plant online by 2010.
