iPhone sales live up to the hype

According to Apple, more than one million iPhones have been sold worldwide over a matter of three days.
Despite a myriad of problems reported over the weekend, the computer giant announced today that it sold its millionth iPhone on Sunday.
“iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO in a statement.
“It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”
The boost in sales could probably also be attributed to the fact the 3G iPhone was launched in 21 countries last Friday, while the original iPhone was only launched in about six countries.
Apple also announced that iPhone users had downloaded over 10 million applications from the new App Store which also launched on Friday. The store has more than 800 applications currently available, with more than 200 offered for free.
