Intel launches developer partner program

Chipmaker offers incentives for software developers.

Intel has launched a program to encourage software engineers to develop code for its latest lines of chips.

The company's Intel Software Partner Program will offer strategic, technological, and marketing aids to companies that develop for Intel's products. The perks include technology roadmaps, marketing templates and access to demo systems.

“The Intel Software Partner Program represents a further step by Intel to invest and foster innovation with the software community on Intel platforms," said Renee James, corporate vice president and general manager of Intel's Software and Solutions Group.

The program will feature three levels of membership with varying degrees of access for software engineers. The highest level will be invitation-only and reserved for companies that "make very significant investments in Intel platforms and technologies," according to the company.

The move comes nearly one week after Intel made another effort to bring in developers by opening up its server Input/Output Acceleration Technology to developers.

On the same day Intel rolled out the Software Partner Program, long-time Intel customer Dell Computers announced a line of servers that ran on Opteron chips made by Intel's rival AMD.

AMD has also been opening up its technologies to outside venders, allowing chipmakers to use its Torrenza socket system for other processors.
