Malware detection offering snapped up.

Online security firm PC Tools is to acquire the Cyberhawk malware detection offering from Colorado-based Novatix.

"We were impressed with the exceptionally strong team at Novatix and their superior behaviour-based malware detection technology," said Simon Clausen, chief executive at PC Tools.

"The acquisition is of strategic importance for PC Tools as the technology is a perfect fit with our market leading security products."

Cyberhawk features real-time behavioural protection technology touted as complementary to traditional signature-based anti-malware programs.

Cyberhawk's patent-pending ActiveDefense technology can offer protection against known and unknown viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkits, buffer overflows and other malware, and provides protection against zero-day attacks, PC Tools claimed.

"This new technology will help strengthen our zero-day coverage and improve our ability to detect emerging threats," said Clausen.

Novatix's Colorado facility will continue to operate as an advanced research centre focused on behavioural detection and emerging technologies.
