Symantec today announced its Vista-compatible products will be ready for the operating system’s 30 January consumer edition release, joining a consortium of competitors in the roll out.

Existing users of Symantec’s Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus and Norton Confidential 2006 and 2007 XP editions will be eligible to receive free compatibility upgrades.

Furthermore, an optional add-on pack with AntiSpam and Parental Controls will be available.

According to Symantec’s consumer product marketing manager David Hall, there is no added technology to the Vista-compatible version.

“The technology is essentially similar and users will get the same benefits.”

The updates will be downloadable a few days before the Vista launch, Hall said.

Symantec will join the likes of Sophos and McAfee – who made similar announcements late last year - followed by Trend Micro and CA, earlier this year.
