SAP steps up e-commerce software push

Entperise software maker takes in webfront application.

SAP has acquired Praxis Software Solutions in an effort to create an integrated ERP and e-commerce suite for small and midsized enterprises.

Praxis is a long time SAP partner. The company markets a software that lets users set up and manage e-commerce stores using data from SAP's Business One application. The company touts the suite's ability to run online marketing campaigns as well as increase cross sales and up sales.

Although the application is accessed through a web interface, users run the software on their own web and database servers. SAP plans to integrate the software into its SAP Business One suite for small and midsized enterprises.

E-commerce software for SME users has been a sweet spot for hosted software vendors including Salesforce.com and Netsuite.

Privately held Praxis is based in Minnesota and currently has about 100 customers. Terms of transaction weren't disclosed.
