Purchase of Neogent could improve setup time and security of ID management
software.
Sun Microsystems is looking to boost its identity management offerings with the acquisition of Neogent.
The company is aiming for the Neogent acquisition to bolster its identity management products, which help businesses keep track of accounts, email addresses, and other user-specific information for both employees and customers.
Neogent's Velocity Identity Package (VIP) software automates some of the processes involved in building identity management databases. Sun claims that the VIP system cuts the time required for setting up an identity management system from one year to "as little as 45 days."
Sun also said that acquiring Neogent should help speed up the compliance of its identity management products with electronic security and privacy legislation such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA.
Sun expects that the merger will close by the second quarter of next year. Financial terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.
