Seoul-based operations to begin on 1 November.

NEC Electronics has announced the establishment of a new wholly-owned subsidiary in Korea.

NEC Electronics Korea, headquartered in Seoul, will commence operations on 1 November with approximately 40 employees.

The company said that recent demand for semiconductor sales and support in Korea had been spurred by the rapid growth of flat-panel televisions and digital AV applications.

There has also been a considerable rise in demand for microcontrollers, power management devices and compound semiconductor devices. NEC Electronics Korea was established to respond to these growing needs.

NEC already has operations in Asia with NEC Hong Kong. As a result of the establishment of NEC Electronics Korea, and NEC's earlier decision to integrate its compound semiconductor businesses, NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Hong Kong will be merged with NEC Electronics Hong Kong.
