Macquarie Hosting, a division of Macquarie Telecom, has signed on to provide managed hosting services to Fairfax Business Media (FBM), for its new AFR Access product.

Three year contract was worth $1 million, said Greg Thomson, group executive, hosting and security, Macquarie Telecom.

Macquarie Hosting plans to design a complex managed hosting solution with, project management company, The Frame Group, to implement the project within the six week time frame requested by FBM, said Thompson.

The solution will be hosted at Macquarie Telecom’s dedicated managed hosting facility, the Intellicentre, which is certified to AS/NZS 7799 and DSD Gateway security standards.

The Frame Group undertook the application development based on Adobe technology and FAST Search indexing technology, which allows users to drill into content by keyword and calendar terms.

Thompson said under the agreement, Macquarie Hosting will provide and manage the infrastructure from the network and servers including; redundant firewalls and switches; redundant links to FBM; 18 HP servers with a mix of Red Hat Linux and Windows Operating Systems; load-balanced web and clustered database servers.

Macquarie Hosting will also look after three separate DMZs; customer database; connection to Macquarie Telecom’s multi-gigabit internet gateway; and the monitoring and management of all equipment, including ongoing patching of the operating and security systems.

The AFR Access is an online service for investors across equities, commodities, property and managed funds, providing information and data services, search technology and portfolio management tools.
