IT and electrical products manufacturer and distributor Cabac has started a campaign to raise money for victims of the Boxing Day tsunami in South Asia.

Andres Runge, national manager for the computer dealer market at Cabac, told CRN the company was hoping to raise between $20,000 and $30,000 for the sale of its "end of life" products in a mail-out catalogue that would be distributed to 13,500 reseller customers by 30 January.

Around 100 end of life products for sale inside this catalogue would be splashed with a "donation amount". Money raised would be donated to the Red Cross, Runge said.

"For example, a USB 1.1 hub, which costs $5 and sells for $9.90 would have a splash saying '$2.50 goes to the Tsunami appeal,'" he said in an email to colleagues.

Runge said the company had an "immense amount" of end of life products such as mouse matts and microphone stands that would have otherwise ended up in the rubbish bin.

All the money obtained from products that had to be "de-valued" would go directly to the cause, Runge said.

"The more money we can raise, the better for everyone," Runge said.

Inside Cabac's March/April reseller catalogue would be a list of reseller customers that spent the most on products that counted towards the appeal.

At the end of the campaign, Cabac would provide the Red Cross with a list of products supporting the Tsunami appeal and their respective donation amounts, Runge said.

The appeal will run throughout February.
