Gamers will soon be able to play wirelessly, with a new triband router that can run five times faster than traditional devices, according to manufacturer Ubicom.

Unveiled at the Computex trade show in Taipei, the 802.11a/b/g router boasts a throughput of over 90Mb/s and extensive security features including a NAT firewall, WEP, WPA, VPN-passthrough and MAC address authentication.

'Consumers today expect fast response times when playing multiplayer internet games, as well as glitch-free radio, voice over IP (VoIP) and video conferencing,' said Glenn Schuster, vice-president of marketing for Ubicom.

The router could also act as a USB print server and, according to Shulster, could be extended to 'basic internet, email processing and file sharing.'

Ubicom said the router was based on its IP3023 wireless network processor and software platform, and its Gamer QoS technology.

The company said that the device was being demonstrated in a private suite this week during Computex, and that it would available as part of the company's IP3000 Software Development Kit (SDK), v6.3 release.

Ubicom said that sampling was available in June. More information can be found at www.ubicom.com.
