Very loosely based on the biblical story of the Tower Of Babel, Tower of the Ancients is a Tetris-like game with a twist.
Basically, stacks of three, or occasionally four, blocks fall from the sky and it is your task to position each stack to form lines of three identical blocks, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Form a valid line and, just like in Tetris, they disappear.
Three minutes into a level a new block type is added to the falling stacks, thereby making it harder to form lines. To make life even more difficult, after another three minutes another block type is removed from the falling stacks. Power-ups are the only way to remove any of these blocks left in the tower.
The graphics are pretty impressive, hence the need for a 3D accelerated graphics card. Bump mapping, motion blur, light coronas, fractal lightning and light trails all improve the gameplay by adding a sense of foreboding to the proceedings.
