Adobe AIR software is a new cross-operating system runtime that enables web developers to use their existing skills, code, and tools to build powerful rich Internet applications (RIAs) for the desktop.

Adobe AIR enables you to build desktop RIAs that integrate local and network data, interact with local and network applications, connect multiple network data sources, provide customized or branded user interfaces, benefit from network resiliency, manage large volumes of data, and reuse components from browser RIAs. Adobe AIR includes the open source ActionScript™ virtual machine (Tamarin) from Adobe Flash® Player 9 software and embedded local database functionality. This enables you to build and deploy a wide range of sophisticated Flash or HTML-based applications consistently across multiple operating systems.
